Math Buddy Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-07-28

Math Buddy (“the App”) is a local-only math tutoring app for kids on Android. This policy describes what data the App handles and how.

Summary

Data the App processes on device

Data Purpose Leaves the device?
Camera / gallery images of worksheets On-device OCR to read the problem No (processed locally; not uploaded for inference)
Recognized problem text / LaTeX Confirm and tutor No
Parent PIN (hashed locally) Gate model downloads and answer reveal No
App settings (teach mode, etc.) Preferences Stored on device only

Optional model download

Parents can download a large on-device language model (~1 GB) from a public model host (e.g. Hugging Face) over Wi‑Fi after entering the parent PIN. That download uses the network. Inference after download stays on the phone and is not sent to our servers.

The App does not require a model download to install; some features need a model loaded locally.

Permissions

Children’s privacy

Math Buddy is designed for educational use by children with a parent or guardian. The App does not knowingly collect personal information from children for advertising or profiling. There is no in-app advertising network in this build.

Third parties

Optional model files may be fetched from third-party model hosts. Their terms and privacy policies apply to that download traffic. The App does not send tutoring conversations or photos to those hosts for solving.

Data retention and deletion

Problem images and text remain on the device under the App’s storage. Uninstalling the App removes App-local data (subject to OS behavior). Downloaded model files are stored in App storage and removed when the App is uninstalled or when you delete them in Models settings (if available).

Changes

We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do.
